Michael Jackson – Legend, the icon by Random Reviews

It just seems to me as though all the real great pop stars are now leaving us. The 80’s was the time of monster pop acts. Pop stars with an almost demi god status. Although I never got caught up in that, it seemed that it was a special time that my children won’t know about in the same way. I was there when it seemed the whole world was going crazy for Michael. I remember seeing pictures of him everywhere I turned and everyone trying to learn his dance moves. Maybe I am just older, but it seems as though things have really changed.

Michael Jackson – Legend, the icon by Random Reviews

As a child, he was vocally extra ordinary, the feel, the passion, in a five year old! What do five year olds know about heartbreak? This one was singing it note perfect and breaking out with killer moves. He was then part of the Jackson 5 – the Icon – Afro’s. That’s how I know them, funny, I can’t remember any of them (They were before my time) but Michael always even then stood out. But it was all about his Quincy Jones collaboration. What’s funny again is that I know that a lot of people reading this will probably not know who the great Quincy Jones is. In answer to that, trust me, he is one of the god fathers of RnB. It was he who helped turn Michael into Michael Jackson – the Legend. He produced the ‘Off the Wall’ album that launched Michael as a solo artist. Timeless, don’t believe me? Don’t remember it, go and find the song’s and actually listen to them. They have a different tone than any work before or afterwards. They really launched him into the heart of 80’s soul. Just when you thought that he couldn’t get bigger, he went and done it. The biggest selling album of all time, and with the decline of album sales, and in my opinion, the decline of the pop superstar, Thriller (brilliant name) will for the foreseeable future hold on to its crown. That is of course unless Obama wants to release an album. That’s an idea; maybe I should speak to his publicist. Does he have a publicist?

Michael Jackson – Dance

This needed its own heading. This is one of the most underrated things to be said about the man. Yes, I said underrated. The younger generations only saw him in his decline, approaching and hitting 50, but if you were lucky enough to see him in the 80’s, then wow! He was head and shoulders above anything that I have seen from then until now. An absolute perfectionist. People still imitate his iconic moves, crutch grabbing, knee slapping and so on. But even I could do that, pfft! This was the man who popularized the moon walk. I have seen this man do the robot dance and NOT LOOK CHEESY! I ask you, what sort of talent does that take? Not only did he not look cheesy, Michael looked incredible and non human, his moves just didn’t look natural, yet they looked natural to him.

Michael Jackson – The Superstar

I didn’t and can’t approve of his lifestyle, that of it that is made public. I’m not going to judge him. That’s unfair and not right – he has recently left us its time not to remember the controversial, we have the rest of our lives for that. But to look back and remember the gift that was given to us in him. He will sorely be missed.

It just seems to me, that pop stars just aren’t the same anymore. Maybe it’s not a bad thing; people really seemed to get a bit too carried away by him. But I almost think that’s the problem. The reason we don’t idolize anyone anymore is because (Obama maybe the current exception to the rule) of our lack of reverence. We think that we are more sophisticated, but we have become jaded and cynical. We don’t hold anything sacred and don’t put anyone on pedestals. When asked to name 3 people who influenced your life, can your really name 3 people? Or are you just picking the usual suspects.

As for me, I have to say what song was there like Man in the Mirror? Another timeless classic, in my opinion.

Michael, I wasn’t a fan but I certainly admired some of your work. I almost feel a little sad that my children won’t be able to see the phenomena. The World will certainly be a little different without you in it.

Rest in peace,

Miguel
